Social media accounts of Pakistani news channels banned in India

New Delhi: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir, the government of the country has taken many big decisions. The government has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, canceled Pakistani visas and reduced the staff in the High Commission. Meanwhile, Pakistani media was spreading rumors about India, in view of which the Indian government has also banned the social media accounts of Pakistani media. Since then no Pakistani media channel is showing in India.

The Government of India has blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Government of Pakistan for users in India. Now Indian users cannot access the official social media accounts of the Government of Pakistan on the X platform.

This digital blackout has been taken as a major political and diplomatic step. This decision of the government is being seen as a tough stand against Pakistan, which reflects its firm commitment on issues related to India’s sovereignty and security. Through this step, India has made it clear that it will not tolerate any kind of foreign propaganda, disinformation and anti-national activities, no matter from which platform it is.

Along with digital action, both India and Pakistan have also decided to reduce the number of employees working in their respective High Commissions. Both the countries have decided to reduce the staff of their High Commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1 by mutual consent. This decision clearly indicates the tension in diplomatic relations and shows that for the time being the dialogue between the two countries can remain at a limited level.

After the death of 26 innocent civilians in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, the Indian government has further tightened its strategy against terrorism. The government has made it clear that now no concessions will be given not only on the military front, but also in the field of information. The influence of media and social media platforms is immense in today’s world and their use as a weapon by terrorists and their supporters has become a big threat.
