
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a new record. He has become the first leader to hold the post of Chief Minister for the longest time in the state. In this case, he has broken the record of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the first Chief Minister of the state.
Yogi Adityanath has so far completed a tenure of 8 years and 132 days, while Govind Ballabh Pant’s total tenure (including before independence) was 8 years and 127 days. The next assembly elections in the state will now be held in 2027.
Took oath as CM on 19 March 2017
Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 19 March 2017. After this, when the BJP got a majority in the 2022 assembly elections, he became the Chief Minister for the second consecutive time. He is the first Chief Minister who has held the post continuously again after a full term.
Political journey of Yogi Adityanath
Yogi Adityanath is the 22nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from being a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is also the Mahant i.e. the chief priest of Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur. He entered politics in 1998 at the age of just 26 by winning the election from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat and became one of the youngest MPs of the country.
Became MP five times in a row
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur for five consecutive times. During the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in the year 2017, he was among the most prominent and influential faces of the BJP. In this election, the party got an absolute majority and on 19 March 2017, Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
