This incident has happened in Mopata of Tehsil Dewal, in which two people are reported missing. 2 persons Tara Singh and his wife are reported missing, while two other persons Vikram Singh and his wife are injured. The administration has started relief and rescue work.
It is being told that the cowshed near the residence has been buried under the debris, in which about 15 to 20 animals are reported to be buried. State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also gave this information on X. He wrote, debris has come due to cloudburst in Badeth Dungar Tok of Basukedaar area of Rudraprayag district and Dewal area of Chamoli district. Due to this some families are trapped. The local administration is carrying out relief and rescue work rapidly. I am constantly in touch with the officials and have instructed the Disaster Secretary and District Magistrates to carry out rescue operations properly and speedily.”
The water level of the Mandakini river is reminding of the horrific situation of 2013. In a telephonic conversation with Aaj Tak, District Magistrate Prateek Jain says that there is news of 4 houses being washed away after heavy rains in Basu Kedar area, everyone has been evacuated safely and the situation is being monitored. In view of heavy rains, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Schools have been closed today in Chamoli, Haridwar and Pithoragarh districts.
Heavy rains are continuing in Haridwar as well. Here, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit has given instructions to keep all schools and Anganwadi centers closed today in view of heavy rains. Giving priority to the safety of the students in view of the continuous heavy rains and bad weather conditions in Pithoragarh district, District Magistrate Vinod Goswami has declared a holiday on 29 August 2025 in all government, non-government and private schools (from class nursery to class 12) and Anganwadi centers of the district.
Let us tell you that due to continuous heavy rains in Uttarakhand, incidents of landslides and waterlogging are increasing rapidly in the hilly districts. The Malari National Highway connecting the Indo-China border in Chamoli district was closed due to a sudden hill collapse near Lata village, due to which more than a dozen villages have lost contact with the tehsil headquarters. The work of opening the road is going on here.
The Meteorological Department has forecast Dehradun, Bageshwar, Orange alert has been declared in view of heavy rains in Nainital, Pithoragarh. Yellow alert has been declared for the rest of the areas. In view of heavy rains in different areas of Uttarakhand for the next two days, the entire state has been put on yellow alert.
