
New Delhi: The results of the four Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been announced. National Conference (NC) candidates won three of the four seats, while the BJP won the fourth. National Conference candidates Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, and Shami Oberoi won the elections, while BJP’s Sat Sharma won the fourth seat. Sat Sharma received 32 votes. Sat Sharma is currently the president of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP.
According to a party statement, National Conference’s Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan won, receiving 58 votes. He faced Ali Mohammad Mir of the BJP. NC’s Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo faced Rakesh Mahajan of the BJP for the second seat. Congress and the People’s Democratic Party also supported the National Conference in the election. It is worth noting that Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are present in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to congratulate the winning candidates. Omar Abdullah will address the media in Srinagar after the results for the four Rajya Sabha seats are announced.
Congratulating the National Conference candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “Heartiest congratulations to my colleagues, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan Sahib, Sajjad Kitchloo, and Shami Oberoi, on their victory in the Rajya Sabha elections. They are about to begin a new innings representing the people of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament. Congratulations for this.”
The Election Commission issued three separate notifications for the four Rajya Sabha seats. Voting took place separately for two of these seats, while elections for the remaining two were held under a general notification. Elections for all four seats were held on Friday.
