Ayodhya: A video showing a patient being inhumanely restrained at the Ayodhya District Hospital has gone viral on social media. Everyone is shocked to see the patient, bound in chains instead of receiving treatment. This incident raises a major question about the healthcare system. After the video went viral, the patient was referred to a medical college, from where his family was taking him to Lucknow, but he died on the way.
Humanity shamed: Treatment like a prisoner in the hospital
A video that went viral from the Ayodhya District Hospital has exposed the entire healthcare system. In the video, a patient’s hands and feet are tied, and he is looking helplessly at the food placed in front of him. This scene is not from a jail, but from the hospital’s ‘disused ward’ which had already been declared closed.
The hospital administration claimed that the patient’s mental condition was not stable; he was an ‘alcoholic psychotic’. But this inhuman treatment has raised serious questions about the system.
Negligence or insensitivity?
As soon as the video went viral, the administration swung into action and immediately referred the patient to the Medical College, Darshan Nagar, on the morning of November 8. Emergency In-charge Dr. Vinod Kumar Arya said that the patient was brought in an unconscious state; he was not mentally ill, but was a chronic alcoholic and also suffered from diabetes. The patient’s nephew, Rahul, also confirmed that his uncle was not mentally ill, but had diabetes. He said that after getting him discharged, when they were taking him to Lucknow, he died on the way.
Who will take responsibility?
According to CMS Rajesh Kumar Singh, District Hospital Ayodhya, the patient was abandoned at the gate by someone. He was admitted on November 5. However, there are contradictions between the statements of the patient’s family and the doctor at the medical college and the claims of the district hospital. The opposition has also raised serious questions about the government and the system regarding this matter. Samajwadi Party and Congress state president Ajay Rai expressed his grief and anger over the incident in a social media post.
