Weather Report: Rain and Snowfall in the Mountains from Tomorrow, Fog to Begin in the Plains; Weather to Change in Delhi as well

New Delhi: The weather in Northwest India is once again heading towards a major change. Due to the continuously active Western Disturbance, there are chances of rain and snowfall in the Himalayan states from January 22nd, while the plains may experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and fog. On Tuesday, while the minimum temperature dropped in Jammu and Kashmir, the mercury rose slightly in the plains states like Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, providing some relief from the cold.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), due to the influence of the Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of rain in the Western Himalayan region during the next seven days. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 21st and 22nd. Heavy snowfall may occur in some parts of the Kashmir Valley on January 22nd and 23rd, while the effect of snowfall is likely to be seen in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 23rd. Light rain may occur in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days.


  • Warning of Strong Winds and Lightning
    The Meteorological Department has warned that strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour may blow during rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and surrounding areas on January 23rd, and there is also a possibility of lightning. Similarly, thunderstorms and lightning conditions may prevail in Himachal Pradesh on January 22nd and 23rd, and in Uttarakhand on January 23rd.

    Mercury Drops in the Mountains
    The mercury dropped again by three degrees in the valley on Tuesday. Sonamarg was the coldest city in the valley with 6.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. The previous day it was minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. In Himachal Pradesh, the night temperature was recorded below 5 degrees Celsius at 17 locations, including Shimla.

    Dense fog in the North…
    Dense to very dense fog conditions prevail in several parts of North India. Due to dense fog, visibility was less than 50 meters in some parts of Haryana and western Rajasthan on Tuesday morning. Dense fog is likely in some areas of Punjab until January 21, while very dense fog may prevail on January 22. Dense fog is also expected in Haryana and Chandigarh until January 21.

    Rain expected in Delhi
    According to the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance will affect Northwest India from the night of January 21, which is likely to bring light rain with strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour and thunderstorms on January 23. A yellow alert has been issued for this. Before this, light to moderate fog and partly cloudy skies are expected in the morning on January 21 and 22.

    The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate fog in various parts of Delhi and the NCR in the morning on January 22. Cloud movement will continue in various areas of Delhi-NCR during the day. The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius on January 21 and 22. The wind speed in Delhi is expected to be 5 to 10 kilometers per hour in the afternoon on January 22.
