March 11, 2026

New Delhi. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his Iranian counterpart, Syed Abbas Araghchi, on Tuesday by phone. This conversation between the two leaders came amid growing concerns about the crisis in West Asia, particularly energy supplies. Jaishankar spoke with Araghchi for the third time on Tuesday following the joint US and Israeli military strikes on Iran.

Jaishankar said in a social media post, “This evening, I had a detailed discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia. We agreed to remain in touch.” Global oil and gas prices have risen after Iran virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow shipping lane between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which approximately 20 percent of global oil and LNG (liquefied natural gas) trade passes. Jaishankar conveyed India’s deep concern to Araghchi regarding developments in Iran and the region.
