Bhopal. Heat has begun to show its ferocity in Madhya Pradesh (MP) since the beginning of March. Typically peaking in the second half of the month, the heat has intensified in the first week itself. The most severe impact is being felt in the Gwalior-Chambal region, where temperatures have been recorded nearly 6 degrees Celsius above normal. Daytime temperatures are also steadily rising in major cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain. The Meteorological Department predicts that the heat wave may intensify after March 15th.
Dhar records highest temperature of 39 degrees Celsius
On Tuesday, temperatures in several districts of the state exceeded 38 degrees Celsius, with Dhar recording the highest temperature of 39 degrees Celsius. Sagar recorded 38.9 degrees Celsius, Ratlam and Narmadapuram 38.8 degrees Celsius, Khajuraho 38.3 degrees Celsius, Guna 38.1 degrees Celsius, and Damoh and Tikamgarh 38 degrees Celsius. Among the five major cities, Gwalior was the hottest, reaching 37.2 degrees Celsius. Ujjain recorded 37 degrees Celsius, Indore 36.8 degrees Celsius, Jabalpur 36.6 degrees Celsius, and Bhopal 36.2 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures in most cities remained above 34 degrees Celsius.
Wind direction has increased the heat.
According to meteorologists, there has been a change in wind direction in the state. While previously, winds were blowing from the northeast, they are now blowing from the west and northwest. These winds are low in moisture and reach Madhya Pradesh through the desert regions of Rajasthan, causing temperatures to rise rapidly.
Weather changes possible after March 15th
According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance may become active after March 15th. Due to this, cloud cover and light drizzle are expected in the eastern and southern parts of the state. Meteorologists predict that a heat wave is unlikely in March, but severe heat may occur in April and May. During this period, the effects of heat waves may be felt for 15 to 20 days. Temperatures may exceed 45 degrees Celsius in several districts of Gwalior-Chambal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions. There are also indications of intense heat in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram divisions.
