Ahmedabad. A major update has emerged regarding the supply of LPG gas. A vessel named ‘Jag Vasant’ has arrived at Kandla Port. It reached Gujarat via the route through Hormuz. This ship is carrying over 42,000 metric tons of LPG gas.
This consignment has arrived at a time when there is significant global uncertainty surrounding energy supplies. The Kandla Port Authority stated that the gas will be unloaded today itself via a “mid-sea transfer.”
A mid-sea transfer implies that the gas is transferred from the ship to another system or port facility while still at sea. This facilitates faster unloading of the gas, saves time, and allows for a quicker resumption of supplies.
Kandla Port is one of India’s largest energy import ports. From here, LPG gas is distributed to various parts of the country. The arrival of this consignment will help ensure a stable and smooth domestic LPG supply in the coming days. It is worth noting that Iran has granted permission to only a few nations to navigate their ships through the Hormuz route; India is among the countries that Iran has authorized to utilize this passage.
How Many Tankers Have Reached India So Far?
Despite the disruption of the Hormuz route due to tensions between Iran and the US, four key Indian oil tankers have arrived safely. These vessels were able to pass through thanks to special permission granted by Iran. The MT Shivalik (LPG) arrived at Mundra Port on March 16, while the MT Nanda Devi (LPG) docked at Kandla on March 17. The ‘Jag Ladki’ (carrying 81,000 tons of crude oil) arrived at Mundra on March 18. Additionally, the Liberian-flagged vessel ‘Shenlong,’ carrying Saudi crude, arrived in Mumbai around March 11.
What Are the Latest Updates on the War?
The war has now entered its 28th day. Friday marks the 29th day of the US-Israel war with Iran. US President Donald Trump has stated that, for the time being, he will not attack Iran’s energy infrastructure for the next ten days.
