Swiss Air Plane Makes Emergency Landing at IGI Airport After Smoke Arrives

New Delhi: A major plane accident was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday morning. The pilot of a Zurich-bound Swiss Air plane aborted takeoff after noticing smoke coming from its left landing gear.

A full emergency was declared at the airport. Four people were injured in the ensuing panic during the evacuation.

According to reports, the plane was about to take off when thick smoke suddenly appeared from the left landing gear. The crew acted quickly and aborted the takeoff. All seven emergency exits were opened, and passengers were evacuated via sliders.


  • TFT fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene to control any fire. Of the 232 people on board, 227 were safely evacuated and transferred to a dedicated DIAL reception center.

    Four passengers were injured during the evacuation process. Three of the seriously injured passengers were taken to Medanta Hospital for treatment, while one was treated at the airport’s medical center. DIAL activated its Crisis Management Center and Multi-Agency Response Team to control the situation.
