Ahmedabad. A major accident involving Gujarat Titans (GT) players and support staff was narrowly averted following their defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Final on Sunday. The bus transporting the team back to their hotel suffered a short circuit, causing the vehicle to break down in the middle of the road; consequently, players and staff had to be immediately evacuated from the bus.
According to reports, smoke began to fill the interior of the bus after the technical malfunction occurred. Assessing the situation, the team management and security personnel safely evacuated the players and support staff from the vehicle. Fortunately, no player or staff member sustained injuries during the incident.
This incident unfolded at the end of what was already a disappointing day for the Gujarat Titans. In the IPL 2026 Final played on Sunday, the team suffered a five-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With this loss, Gujarat’s dream of winning the title was shattered.

Even prior to the final, the Gujarat Titans’ travel schedule had been quite hectic and challenging. On May 27, the team traveled from Dharamshala to Mullanpur, where they played Qualifier 2 against the Rajasthan Royals on May 29.
Following that, the team was scheduled to return to Ahmedabad on May 30; however, their flight was significantly delayed due to adverse weather conditions in Mullanpur. After repeated delays, the Gujarat Titans contingent finally managed to reach their home ground in Ahmedabad late on Saturday evening. In this context, the defeat in the final—followed by a technical glitch in the team bus—brought a disappointing end to what had been a long and grueling campaign filled with difficulties for the Gujarat Titans. However, the most reassuring aspect was that, despite smoke filling the bus, all the players and staff remained completely safe.
