Mobile Phone, Pen Drive Found in Jail Cell; Fresh FIR Against Convicted Ex-MP Prajwal Revanna

Bengaluru: A fresh FIR has been registered against former BJP MP Prajwal Revanna after a mobile phone was allegedly recovered from his cell at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru. Revanna, who is serving a life sentence following his conviction in a sexual assault case, has been named in the case along with undertrial prisoner Pratap Rai.

According to the prison administration, a Central Crime Branch (CCB) team carried out an extensive search operation at the jail on Monday afternoon, focusing particularly on high-profile inmates. The search continued for around four to five hours.

During the operation, officials reportedly recovered a mobile phone, a pen drive and a charger. The authorities said no other prohibited items were found.

The incident has also triggered action against jail officials. The Assistant Superintendent of the prison has been suspended, while the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail has been served a show-cause notice over the recovery.

Revanna was convicted in August 2025 in a case involving allegations of repeated sexual harassment, voyeurism and destruction of evidence and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment. He was the Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan during the 2024 general elections, when allegations of sexual exploitation against him came to the forefront.

The controversy intensified after explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna surfaced publicly. He had denied the allegations and claimed that the videos were fabricated or morphed.

Between April 28 and June 10, 2024, four FIRs were registered against Revanna, along with two separate cases at cybercrime police stations in Bengaluru. A separate case has also been registered against his father, H.D. Revanna.

The latest jail incident is now expected to come under further investigation as authorities examine how the prohibited electronic devices allegedly reached Revanna’s cell.
