Wedding Excuse Under SIT Scanner: Where Is Ishan’s Missing Mobile in Samastipur Liquor Case?

Samastipur: The Special Investigation Team probing the alleged liquor-smuggling case involving Neha and her brother-in-law Ishan is now examining a series of unanswered questions, including the whereabouts of Ishan’s missing mobile phone.

Neha and Ishan were allegedly caught transporting liquor in the AC First Class coach of the Swatantrata Senani Express. While the railway police have recovered the liquor, Ishan’s mobile phone was reportedly not found at the time of the arrest. Investigators are now searching for the device, hoping it could provide crucial information about the alleged smuggling operation.

The SIT is also examining Neha’s mobile phone, including her call records, contact list and WhatsApp conversations. However, sources say the initial examination has not yet produced any concrete lead.

Who Was Behind the Alleged Liquor Consignment?
Investigators are trying to determine how the liquor allegedly made its way from Haryana to Samastipur, who was supposed to receive the consignment and whether other people were involved. The SIT is also exploring the possibility of an organized network in which young women may have been used to transport liquor. Officials are attempting to establish whether Neha and Ishan were making a one-off delivery or were allegedly connected to a larger smuggling network.

Neha’s Wedding Claim Under Investigation
Neha reportedly told the RPF and CIB teams that the liquor had been brought from the city where her brother-in-law lived for consumption at a family wedding. The SIT is now scrutinizing this claim.

Investigators may question Neha and Ishan about the alleged wedding, including whose wedding it was, when and where it was scheduled, and who else was expected to attend. Their travel arrangements are also being examined, including how they came to be travelling in the AC First Class coach.

The train’s reservation chart is being checked to determine in whose name the AC First Class seat was booked. Investigators are also looking into why an AC First Class coupe was allegedly used and why the coach was changed at Varanasi. One of the key questions before the SIT is whether travelling in an AC First Class coupe was a deliberate attempt to avoid scrutiny during the alleged transportation of liquor.

Family Members’ Previous Cases Also Being Probed
The SIT is also examining allegations regarding the possible involvement of Neha’s family members in liquor-related activities. According to railway police, Neha’s father, Sanjay Kumar Jha, was arrested by Singhia police on August 15, 2024, in connection with a liquor-related case. Her elder sister, Nishu Jha, was reportedly arrested by the Darbhanga Excise Department on November 30, 2025, with 21 litres of foreign liquor.

Investigators are now attempting to connect the various pieces of information—including mobile data, travel records, previous contacts and family-related details—to establish the complete sequence of events. The SIT’s findings will determine whether Neha and Ishan were allegedly involved in a one-time liquor consignment or whether investigators uncover links to a wider liquor-smuggling network.
