Rajgarh: A stray dog has spread panic in Khilchipur, located in the Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. On Friday, within a span of just 6 hours, the dog bit and injured 26 people. From 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the animal roamed the market area, attacking passersby—including those out shopping and others traveling on two-wheelers. Many individuals fell victim to the dog’s attacks.
Following the incident, people visiting the market remain fearful. The injured were taken to the government hospital in Khilchipur for treatment, where doctors provided necessary medical care and administered anti-rabies injections. Meanwhile, locals allege that despite lodging complaints, no concrete action has been taken to capture the dog.
The dog began biting people around 12:00 PM on Friday and continued its attacks until 6:00 PM. It primarily targeted people’s legs, leaving some with deep wounds. Victims reported that the dog would suddenly lunge at people in the market; it would even chase after two-wheelers passing along the road to bite those riding them. This caused widespread chaos in the market, with many people opting to change their routes to avoid the animal.
All those injured in the attacks were taken to the Community Health Centre in Khilchipur for treatment. According to Block Medical Officer Dr. Kamal Dangi, the victims received necessary medical attention, including anti-rabies vaccinations. Many sustained wounds, with some suffering from bleeding injuries on their legs. Following this incident, local residents fear that if the dog is not captured soon, it could injure others as well.
Distressed by these repeated attacks, residents have lodged a complaint with the local administration. The victims have also registered a complaint via the CM Helpline. Locals point out that markets become crowded during the festive season; in such a scenario, a dog roaming freely poses a significant threat to children, the elderly, and shoppers. Residents have urged the administration to take immediate action and capture the stray dogs wandering in the area. The fact that so many people were injured in a single day in Khilchipur has raised questions about the local administration’s response. People are asking why a team was not dispatched immediately to capture the dog while it was repeatedly attacking individuals.
