Mumbai. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a horrific plane crash near Baramati yesterday. The impact of the accident was so severe that identifying the body was difficult. Pune Rural Police stated that the Deputy Chief Minister’s body was identified based on his wristwatch and his specific seating position on the plane.

Some eyewitnesses have also claimed that Ajit Pawar was identified at the crash site by his wristwatch. A viral video points to a charred body, claiming that the body is Ajit Pawar’s, and that his watch was the key to identification.

According to eyewitnesses, the crashed Learjet aircraft caught fire, and its debris was scattered just 200 meters from the edge of the tabletop runway at Baramati Airport. As soon as the accident occurred, people from nearby villages rushed to the scene. They say Ajit Pawar was very punctual and always wore a wristwatch, and that was the basis for his identification.

  • It is noteworthy that a wristwatch is also the election symbol of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In a viral video, a man is seen showing a watch on the wrist of a charred body and claiming to be Ajit Pawar.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police (SP), Sandeep Singh Gill, told the Times of India, “Our team closely examined all the bodies recovered from the crash site. We identified the Deputy Chief Minister’s body by studying his wristwatch, which the police were already familiar with. Furthermore, he always sat in a specific seat when flying such aircraft.” After analyzing the condition and location of the body found after the crash, our team confirmed that it was Ajit Pawar’s body. However, we have also collected samples for DNA testing for formal confirmation.

The 16-year-old aircraft was reportedly operated by VSR Ventures Private Limited. The plane crashed during its second landing attempt at the uncontrolled Baramati airport. Ajit Pawar had flown from Mumbai in the morning and was scheduled to address four rallies in Pune district throughout the day to campaign for the Zilla Parishad elections scheduled for February 5.

The other deceased in the accident have been identified as Captain Sumit Kapoor (with approximately 15,000 hours of flying experience), co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak (with approximately 1,500 hours of experience), personal security officer (PSO) Vidip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali. A special team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) arrived at the scene on Wednesday evening and began a forensic investigation. The team is thoroughly examining the aircraft wreckage, flight data, and operating circumstances.
