New Delhi: Operatives of the Pakistan-backed ‘Shahzad Bhatti Module,’ currently in the custody of the Delhi Police Special Cell, have made shocking revelations during interrogation. A highly historic temple in Delhi and a military camp in Haryana were on the hitlist of these terrorists.
On Thursday, the Delhi Police arrested nine operatives of this module, seizing a cache of heavy weaponry from their possession. Interrogation has revealed that one of the accused linked to the module had meticulously conducted a reconnaissance of the temple. He had sent photographs and videos of the temple complex to his handlers based in Pakistan.
Acting at the behest of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, this module was conspiring to launch an attack on a renowned historic temple in Delhi. The terrorists were preparing to wreak havoc by opening indiscriminate fire on the police personnel and paramilitary forces deployed for the temple’s security.
Conspiracy to Attack Dhaba and Military Camp
The investigation has also brought to light that a famous dhaba (roadside eatery) located on the Delhi-Sonipat Highway was also on their hitlist. Thousands of people gather at this dhaba on a daily basis. The terrorists intended to cause mass casualties by launching a hand grenade attack at the location.
Furthermore, a military camp situated in Hisar, Haryana, was also on the terrorists’ radar. The accused had conducted a reconnaissance of the military camp and sent a video of it to their Pakistani handlers. The module’s operatives further revealed that several police stations in Uttar Pradesh were also included in their list of targets.
It is worth noting that, as part of a major operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell had apprehended nine members of the Pakistan ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti Module from various states across the country, including Delhi.
