“Gyanesh, It’s Done Bro”: Rahul Gandhi’s Gen-Z Jab at CEC During Opposition Protest

October 06, 2026

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a distinctly Gen-Z-style swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during an Opposition protest in Delhi on Tuesday, holding up a placard that read, “Gyanesh, it’s done bro.”

Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress MPs and leaders of several INDIA bloc parties, took to the streets to protest against the Election Commission and demand the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Among those participating in the march were Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. The protesters were heading towards the Election Commission office when police stopped them with barricades around 400 metres from the premises.

Rahul’s “Gen-Z” message grabs attention
Amid the standoff, Rahul Gandhi was seen holding the placard targeting Gyanesh Kumar. He later shared a video featuring the message on his X account, turning the protest into a social-media moment. The slogan was seen as a Gen-Z-style political jab at the Chief Election Commissioner, reflecting the Opposition’s increasingly sharp criticism of the poll panel.

  • Opposition leaders stage sit-in
After being stopped, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and other Opposition MPs staged a sit-in near the barricades. Some Samajwadi Party leaders climbed onto the barricades as protesters raised slogans including “Vote thief, step down from power.” Security was tightened in the area, with police and paramilitary personnel deployed around the protest site. Several police buses were also stationed nearby as more demonstrators continued to gather.

    Priyanka Gandhi among leaders detained
Police said the march had not received the required permission. Following the standoff, several Congress MPs and Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained. Rahul Gandhi, however, was not detained and continued sitting in protest alongside other Opposition MPs.

    Congress demands resignation and arrest
During the demonstration, the Congress escalated its attack on Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation and even calling for his arrest. The party accused the Election Commission leadership of facilitating what it described as “vote theft.” The protest comes amid the wider political confrontation over the Special Intensive Revision process, with the Opposition continuing to raise questions about the functioning of the Election Commission.
