Mumbai: Following the instructions of the Bombay High Court, Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a notice to Maratha reservation movement leader Manoj Jarange Patil for violating the rules. The police have directed Jarange Patil’s core committee to vacate the Azad Maidan premises as soon as possible. The notice also mentions that the police have taken note of Jarange Patil’s statements in the media and have included them in the notice. However, the protesters have said that they will challenge the police’s decision in the court.
According to Mumbai Police, Jarange Patil and his supporters have violated the conditions set by the court and the police during the demonstration held for Maratha reservation at Azad Maidan. That is why the police rejected the demand to continue the demonstration.
Protesters will go to HC against the police
The police said that an application was made last night to extend the police approval to continue the demonstration. Which was rejected by the police on Tuesday morning and the protesters have been instructed to vacate the roads. On this, the protesters have said that they will challenge the police decision in the Bombay High Court.
The organizer of the demonstration, Virendra Pawar, told that lawyer Satish Maneshinde will present his side in the court on behalf of the Maratha protesters.
Protesters arrived in large numbers
It is being told that the permission given for the demonstration was only for one day and a maximum limit of 5,000 people was set in it. However, about 35,000 to 45,000 protesters led by Jarange Patil reached Mumbai, who blocked Azad Maidan as well as surrounding roads, such as CSTM, Marine Drive and P D’Mello Road. This caused heavy traffic jams and public inconvenience in South Mumbai.
