Mother raped, daughter’s clothes taken off… story of the dark deeds of former MP Prajwal Revanna who was sentenced to life imprisonment

New Delhi: The court has finally given a historic verdict in the sex scandal that shook Karnataka politics. In this case, former MP from Hassan and JDS leader Prajwal Revanna has been sentenced to life imprisonment. The court announced the sentence on Saturday after he was convicted on August 1 in several cases related to sexual abuse, rape, threats and digital crime. The court has ordered life imprisonment in two cases and a total fine of Rs 11 lakh. This amount will be given to the victim as compensation.

In this sex scandal, a simple saree emerged as the biggest evidence. The victim told the court that when Prajwal raped her forcefully, she was wearing a saree. After the incident, she kept that saree safely. In forensic investigation, sperm marks were found on the saree. This evidence presented in the court gave a decisive turn to the whole case. Not only this, the victim had also recorded the video of the incident, in which Prajwal Revanna’s face was clearly visible.

After the disclosure of this case, the victim girl had told that between the years 2020 and 2021, Prajwal Revanna constantly forced her to take off her clothes on video calls. When she refused, he threatened to ruin her and her mother. The victim girl said, “He would call on my mother’s phone and ask me to pick up the video call. When I refused, he clearly said that if my mother did not cooperate, he would take away my father’s job and would not hesitate to rape me.” The victim had revealed that her mother was raped at her residence in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. The video of this incident later went viral on social media. Not only Prajwal, the victim also made serious allegations against her father and senior JDS leader HD Revanna. She had said that the father-son are habitual offenders. Both of them had sexually abused the victim’s mother as well as other female employees working in the house. After this revelation, three maids also came forward. The victim had told that two years of continuous harassment devastated her family. Her mother used to stay away from home for months. She could call only at midnight. Father was beaten up. He had to sell his land and even lost his job. The victim said, “He treated us like slaves. He constantly threatened us. When we filed a case, we were asked to withdraw the case by luring us to return home.” This whole matter had brought an earthquake in Karnataka politics.

The victim’s mother had told that Suraj Revanna got married in the year 2019. During this time she was called to the wedding on the pretext of work, but after that Revanna started calling her alone in his room on every occasion. A total of six women worked in that family. Everyone lived in fear. Especially when Prajwal Revanna came home, there was silence on the entire staff. Not only this, his father HD Revanna used to call women to the storeroom after his wife left the house.

After this, he would take them inside on the pretext of giving them fruits and there he would do obscene acts with them. He would also sexually exploit them. This continued again and again. The woman said that it was not safe for her to even work in the kitchen. Many times, Revanna entered the kitchen and molested her. The victim girl told the court, “We were scared, so we could not tell the truth initially. But when the mother saw the video of the rape, she gave a statement in front of the judge and the SP. Today, when the court has given a strict punishment, we are confident that justice is alive. If something happens to us, Prajwal Revanna and his family will be responsible.” The responsibility of investigating this case was given to the SIT of Karnataka Police.
