MP: Road accident in Maihar; speeding XUV rams into the rear of a truck; five members of the same family killed

Maihar. A horrific road accident occurred late Monday night on National Highway-30 (NH-30) in Maihar district. Near Rigra village, under the jurisdiction of the Dehat police station, a speeding XUV car rammed into the rear of a truck moving ahead of it. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled. Six young men inside the car were trapped badly; five of them died on the spot, while one sustained critical injuries.

Accident occurred while returning from a birthday party
According to preliminary information, the young men were returning to Maihar after attending a birthday celebration at a relative’s house. Late at night, as their car reached Rigra village, it collided with the truck ahead. The accident was so loud that the sound of the impact was heard from a distance, prompting nearby villagers to rush to the scene.

Eyewitnesses stated that the car was speeding, causing the driver to lose control and crash directly into the rear of the truck. Following the collision, the front of the vehicle was crushed, trapping the occupants inside.

Multiple agencies mobilized for the rescue operation
Upon receiving news of the accident, Dial-112, the highway patrolling team, the 108 ambulance service, and the National Highway ambulance service (1033) immediately arrived at the scene. A rescue operation was conducted for an extended period with the help of local villagers. Considerable effort was required to extricate the trapped individuals; the rescue team managed to pull out all the victims, but five of the young men had already succumbed to their injuries. The critically injured youth was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Amarpatan; after receiving first aid, he was referred to the District Hospital in Satna due to his critical condition. According to reports, the five young men who lost their lives in the accident were members of the family of Manish Patel, a former Congress party candidate from Maihar. Grief engulfed the entire family upon learning of the simultaneous deaths of five of their members. Relatives, well-wishers, and a large number of locals rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news; the family members are inconsolable. A wave of mourning has swept through the area, and everyone is stunned by this tragic accident.

Bodies Sent to Maihar Hospital for Post-mortem
The bodies of the five youths were transported to the mortuary at the Civil Hospital in Maihar using ‘108’ and ‘1033’ (highway) ambulances. The post-mortem procedures will be completed on Tuesday morning, after which the bodies will be handed over to the families. A crowd had gathered at the hospital premises late into the night.
