Raisen. A deeply shameful and inhumane incident has come to light in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh (MP), where a 70-year-old man was made to suffer the consequences of his son’s love marriage. Bihari Banjara, a resident of Agariya Markho village, was not only physically assaulted by members of the girl’s family but was also forcibly made to drink urine while a video of the act was recorded—a video that subsequently went viral on social media.
According to reports, on March 5, a young man residing in the Nayapura Agariya Malkho locality of Raisen eloped with a minor girl from Talaiya village, located within the Shamshabad police station area of Vidisha district. A case regarding this matter was registered at the Shamshabad police station on March 6. The very next day, on the morning of March 7, the girl’s family members and relatives arrived in Raisen, traveling in two four-wheeled vehicles.
It is alleged that they first questioned the elderly Bihari Banjara about the whereabouts of the girl and then physically assaulted him. Subsequently, under a pretext, they asked him to accompany them; they then forcibly bundled him into a vehicle and took him away. Reports indicate that a group of approximately 10 to 12 individuals took the elderly man to Motipura village in the Rajgarh district, where they were unable to locate either the boy or the girl.
Elderly Man Brutally Beaten
During this ordeal, the enraged group subjected the elderly man to inhumane treatment; they filled a liquor bottle with urine, forced him to drink it, and recorded a video of the act. This video later went viral on social media, prompting the police to take immediate action.
On Thursday, the victim—the elderly Bihari Banjara—accompanied by his family, arrived at the Sendora police outpost and lodged a formal complaint regarding the entire incident. Following this, the Raisen police also alerted the Rajgarh police. After the video of the incident surfaced, police officials arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
According to Raisen SDOP Pratibha Sharma, the incident itself occurred on March 7, whereas the video went viral on Wednesday. Based on the victim’s complaint, the police have taken two accused individuals, residents of Salamatpur, into custody. Given the gravity of the matter, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused persons.
Police Register Case and Initiate Investigation
The Rajgarh police have also become actively involved in this case, and a team arrived in Raisen on Thursday. Accompanied by the victim, the process of registering an FIR at the concerned police station has been initiated. The police have stated that strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in this case. This incident highlights the rising violence within society and the growing tendency to take the law into one’s own hands—a situation in which an innocent elderly man was punished despite having committed no wrongdoing.
