New rule for Madrasas in UP… All students and Maulanas must be provided to the ATS

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major step regarding Madrasas. To keep security agencies on their toes, the Yogi government has implemented a new protocol. Under this protocol, complete details of all Maulanas and students teaching in Madrasas in the state will be submitted to the ATS. This move comes at a time when security agencies in several states are expanding their investigations following the recent bombings in the national capital, Delhi.

According to the new order, every recognized and unrecognized Madrasa in the state will be required to provide the personal background, mobile number, permanent address, Aadhaar card details, and other identification documents of all teachers and religious instructors working there to the ATS office. Similarly, a list of all students’ details and mobile numbers has also been made mandatory.

Sources say this process isn’t merely a data collection or survey, but rather a security audit designed to identify suspicious elements within any institution in a timely manner. According to sources, intelligence agencies have been alerted to the increased influx of youth from outside states into some madrasas and private religious institutions over the past few months. In response, the ATS has been tasked with conducting extensive background verification of these madrasas.

Following the recent bombings in Delhi, national security agencies have been put on high alert. Central agencies, along with state-level teams, have been directed to strengthen cross-checking the identities of visitors to religious and educational institutions. In this regard, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has initiated the process of seeking detailed information from madrasas. The agencies state that this move is not directed against any institution, but rather part of a policy to prioritize security, ensuring that any potential threats can be prevented at an early stage.

Not just madrasas, some private universities have also come under scrutiny. Integral University in Lucknow came into the spotlight when the name of a professor, Parvez Ansari, surfaced during the investigation into the Delhi bombings. Subsequently, intelligence agencies directed the university administration to provide the identities and documents of all professors from Jammu and Kashmir. Records of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying at the university were to be submitted. Furthermore, details of the number of foreign students, their courses, and their roles were also submitted to the Intelligence Department.
