New Delhi: Five people died on the spot and one got injured in a road accident in Kammad near IIT Mandi. Three dead have been identified while the police is trying to trace two. The dead have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh son of Harvansh Singh resident of Ludhiana, Umesh Kumar son of Raja Ram GT Road Pratap Nagar Amritsar and Sagar son of Surendra Kumar resident of village and post office Ferozepur district Amritsar.
The driver Gurjeet Singh son of Jagtar Singh village Malia district Tarn Taran is injured in the accident. The accident took place at 8:45 in the morning on Kammad bridge. The said people were coming to Kammad ITI Mandi from Amritsar, Punjab with tent material. They were called by a local contractor for a program. All of them left on Sunday evening with the goods in a pickup vehicle and stayed in Sundar Nagar at night. They left with the goods at seven in the morning.
Four people were sitting on top of the pickup while one person was sitting with the driver. After descending into the Kammad, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the pickup collided with the railing of the bridge. Due to this, four people sitting on top of the pickup jumped about 100 meters in the air and fell on the rocks on the banks of the Uhl river. Due to this, they died on the spot. The pickup collided with the railing from the side of the operator. Due to this, the person sitting with the driver also fell down and died. The vehicle has also suffered a lot of damage.
In the initial investigation, the cause of the accident is believed to be overspeed. The goods in the pickup were also overloaded. After the accident, the goods also fell down from the bridge. Later, the goods were lifted by two other vehicles. At the same time, after the accident, Kammad 108 ambulance personnel and police reached the spot and took the bodies in their possession and took them to the zonal hospital. The injured driver Gurjeet is also admitted in the zonal hospital. He told that the accident happened due to brake failure. SHO Padhar Saurabh told that the police is investigating the causes of the accident. All the deceased are residents of Punjab and had come to Kamand to work as daily wage labourers. At present, the relatives of the deceased are being called.
The bridge on which the accident took place in Kamand has not been inaugurated yet. However, all the railing work on the bridge has been completed. One and a half years ago also, three people were injured when a vehicle fell here. Later they died in the hospital. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep condolences on the death of five people in a road accident near Kamand in Padhar of Mandi district.
Another person is seriously injured in this accident. The Chief Minister said that this is a very unfortunate incident and in this difficult time, the state government stands firmly with the affected families. He has directed the district administration to provide all possible help to the families of the deceased and provide better medical treatment to the injured. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has prayed to God for peace of the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured person.
