US Attacks Iran’s Qeshm and Bandar Abbas; Trump Calls It a “Love Tap”

May 08, 2026

New Delhi: Despite a ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran, the conflict appears to be intensifying. While Iran fired missiles targeting a US destroyer in the Strait of Hormuz, the US has now launched attacks on Qeshm and Bandar Abbas. According to a report by Fox News, the US military has carried out strikes on Qeshm and Bandar Abbas. Sounds of explosions were also heard in the Iranian city of Minab. US President Donald Trump has stated that this retaliatory action, taken in response to Iranian attacks, is merely a “love tap.”

Following the US action, Iran has activated its air defense systems in the capital, Tehran. The US Central Command also confirmed these attacks via a social media post. Central Command stated that on May 7, US Navy guided-missile destroyers were transiting through the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman. As they passed through international shipping lanes, Iran fired multiple missiles and deployed drones and small boats. After destroying these threats, the US military targeted the specific Iranian military bases responsible for the attacks on US forces.

  • Central Command noted that the Iranian military sites targeted in the strikes included missile and drone launch sites, as well as command-and-control centers and intelligence surveillance hubs. Central Command further emphasized that while they do not seek to escalate tensions, they remain fully deployed and prepared to ensure the safety and security of US forces. Additionally, Central Command asserted that the US vessels sustained no damage whatsoever during the Iranian attacks.

The Iranian news agency Mehr has also reported explosions in the Hormozgan province. According to the news agency, loud sounds of explosions were heard in Sirik, located within the Hormozgan province. Explosions have also occurred in the Iranian city of Minab. Following these blasts in various cities, Iran has activated its air defense system in the capital, Tehran.

    Iranian Officials Vow to Retaliate
Top Iranian military officials have alleged that the United States has violated the ceasefire. According to the Iranian military, the U.S. first attacked an Iranian tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and subsequently, in coordination with some of its allies, launched attacks on areas inhabited by civilians. The Iranian military has stated that it will deliver a strong response to these actions.

    Iran Claims Missile Attack
Earlier, Iran had accused the United States of targeting one of its tankers. Iran’s state-run media reported that, following the alleged U.S. attack on an Iranian tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian military launched a retaliatory strike. Citing an Iranian military official, reports claim that the Iranian forces carried out a missile attack on a U.S. warship.

Citing an Iranian military official, it was claimed that missiles were fired specifically targeting U.S. units. The official asserted that the enemy units sustained heavy damage in the Iranian missile attack, prompting them to withdraw from the area. However, the report did not specify exactly when this alleged attack by the U.S. took place.

    Trump Says: Drones “Incinerated” Mid-Air
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump also posted about the incident on Truth Social. Trump claimed that three world-class U.S. destroyers have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that while they came under attack, they sustained no damage. In his post, he further claimed that the Iranian attackers suffered a devastating blow. Trump stated that several small boats were swiftly sunk at sea.

He also stated that missiles were fired at our destroyers, but they were easily shot down. Trump remarked that drones were also deployed, which were incinerated while still in the air. They were seen falling into the sea quite beautifully—much like a butterfly descending toward its grave. In a “Truth Post,” he asserted that a normal country would have allowed these destroyers to pass; however, Iran is no ordinary nation. It is currently under the leadership of lunatics.

Sounds of Explosions in Qeshm and Bandar Abbas
Sounds of explosions have been heard in Iran’s Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas. Iran has claimed to have intercepted several small drones in these areas. A report by Iran’s Mehr News Agency claims that following the interception of these small drones, the air defense system was activated, and two enemy drones were shot down. Citing sources, Iran’s state-run news agency, Mizan, reported that the sounds of explosions heard in Qeshm were the result of air defense operations targeting the intercepted drones.

Amidst the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Iranian officials have claimed that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is closely monitoring the situation. An official from the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that no action is taken without the Supreme Leader’s authorization. The Foreign Ministry official further asserted that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is personally overseeing all matters.

CENTCOM Releases Image of Aircraft Taking Off
Amidst the ongoing standoff with Iran, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a photograph of an EA-18G Growler aircraft taking off from the flight deck of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). The image depicts a U.S. Navy sailor signaling to the aircraft. Meanwhile, according to a report by Bloomberg News, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved a $25.8 billion arms package for nations in the Middle East.
