New Delhi: The conflict between the United States and Iran continues to escalate, with the US military carrying out another round of large-scale airstrikes on Iran for the 11th consecutive night. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, military command centers, maritime assets, and logistics infrastructure in an effort to weaken Iran’s military capabilities.
CENTCOM said the strikes are aimed at reducing threats to international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes. The US military also claimed that Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels passing through the strait over the past three months, endangering hundreds of sailors and disrupting global maritime trade. Despite the attacks, the US stated that commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues.
US President Donald Trump signaled that Washington is not interested in holding negotiations with Iran at present. He also indicated that future military operations could target areas near Iran’s key uranium enrichment facilities, raising concerns about further escalation.
Iran Responds with Fresh Attacks
Iran has also stepped up its retaliation. On Tuesday, an oil tanker was reportedly attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, while missile warning sirens were activated in Bahrain and Kuwait, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
Oil Prices Surge Amid Conflict
The ongoing hostilities are beginning to affect global energy markets. International crude oil prices have climbed above $91 per barrel, while the average price of gasoline in the United States has risen to nearly $4 per gallon, adding pressure on consumers and businesses alike.
Report Claims Over 500 US Troops Injured
According to an Associated Press report, the number of US military personnel injured during the conflict has crossed 500, a figure reportedly higher than the official numbers released by the Pentagon. With the US midterm elections approaching, the Biden administration is facing increasing political pressure over its military strategy and the economic impact of rising fuel prices.
The continued exchange of military strikes has heightened concerns that the conflict could expand further, posing risks to regional stability, global oil supplies, and international trade.
