New Delhi: A lengthy telephone conversation has taken place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. According to reports, PM Modi spoke with President Trump over the phone for 40 minutes. This marks the first conversation between PM Modi and President Trump following the ceasefire involving Iran. This dialogue between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump occurred at a time when President Trump has announced plans to completely block the Strait of Hormuz.
Briefing on the conversation, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore stated that President Trump conveyed to PM Modi his desire to emphasize that “America loves India.” Providing details regarding the phone call, Prime Minister Modi noted that the discussion involved a review of the significant progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Additionally, the two leaders discussed the prevailing situation in West Asia. PM Modi highlighted that, during the conversation, emphasis was placed on the critical importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
Writing on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), PM Modi posted: “Received a call from my friend, President Donald Trump. We reviewed the significant progress made in our bilateral cooperation across various sectors. We remain committed to further strengthening our ‘Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership’ in all areas. We also discussed the situation in West Asia and emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.”
It is noteworthy that, following the ceasefire involving Iran, peace talks spearheaded by Pakistan have ended in failure. In Islamabad, representatives from Pakistan, the US, and Iran engaged in a 21-hour-long discussion regarding the conflict involving Iran, its repercussions, and subsequent efforts to restore peace; however, the talks yielded no concrete outcome. Following this development, the US President held this extensive conversation with Prime Minister Modi.
Prior to this, PM Modi and President Trump had last spoken on March 24. During that conversation as well, both leaders had discussed the issue of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. Following the interaction on March 24, the two leaders held this latest conversation on April 14.
