The government has approved the proposal of working for 10 hours every day for commercial units. Along with this, the limit of working hours in the entire week has also been set, which is 48 hours. An order has been issued by the government in this regard on July 5. However, shops and malls have been kept out of this.

According to the report of India Today, with the aim of making business easier in the state, the Telangana government has issued this big order regarding working hours in a week. According to the government order issued by the Department of Labor, Employment, Training and Factories on July 5, this change has been made under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (Act No. 20 of 1988). According to the government order, it has been clarified that the daily working hours in commercial units should not exceed 10 hours and the weekly working hours limit should not exceed 48 hours. Along with these limits, the government order stated that employees will also be given overtime if they work more than this.
Half an hour break, order effective from July 8!
On one hand, according to the new limit set by the Telangana government, if the work is done for more than 10 hours, then the employees will get overtime, but here it has also been clarified that despite overtime, the shift cannot be more than 12 hours. Apart from this, it is also necessary to give a 30-minute break to the employees in between working for more than 6 hours daily. Telangana Govt This order will come into effect after being published in the Telangana Gazette on July 8.
Not following the rules will cost you
According to the government, this law made regarding working hours in a week has been brought with the aim of promoting business in the state. Under this, employees working in commercial units can be allowed to work more than 48 hours a week on overtime pay, but will not have to work more than 144 hours in any quarter. The government has also clearly stated that if these conditions are not followed, the exemption given to the concerned company will be revoked in case of violation.
Decision amid debate on work-life balance
It is worth noting that the Telangana government has approved the proposal regarding working hours in a week at a time when the debate on work-life balance has been going on for a long time in the country. Last year, while Infosys Chairman N R Narayana Murthy had heated up the issue by advising 70 hours of work in a week, after this L&T Chairman S N Subrahmanyan went two steps further and advised a 90-hour work week, for which he was severely criticized.
