
New Delhi: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has released a report, according to which Diwali saw record-breaking sales. People purchased Indian goods in large quantities. Goods worth ₹5.40 lakh crore were sold, while services generated business worth ₹65,000 crore. This bumper Diwali sale reflects India’s economic strength and Swadeshi spirit.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT)’s research report on Diwali Festive Sales 2025 is based on a comprehensive nationwide survey conducted in 60 major distribution centers, including state capitals and tier 2 and 3 cities. According to the report, total sales this year during Diwali reached a record ₹6.05 lakh crore, including ₹5.40 lakh crore in goods and ₹65,000 crore in services. This is the highest festival turnover in India’s business history. Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Chandni Chowk, Delhi, and Secretary General of CAIT, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as a “strong brand ambassador” for rationalizing GST and adopting Swadeshi, inspiring both the business community and consumers.
Khandelwal said that the Prime Minister’s “Vocal for Local” and “Swadeshi Diwali” slogans have resonated with the public. 87% of consumers preferred Indian-made goods over foreign goods, meaning 87 out of 100 people purchased Indian goods, leading to a significant decline in demand for Chinese goods. Traders have reported a 25% increase in sales of Indian-made products compared to last year. Khandelwal said that Diwali 2025 trade figures show a 25% growth compared to last year’s sales of ₹4.25 lakh crore. Non-corporate and traditional markets contributed 85% to the total trade.
CAIT National President B. C. Bhartia provided information on sales of major festive items. According to him, grocery and FMCG accounted for 12%, gold and jewelry 10%, electronics and electricals 8%, consumer durables 7%, readymade garments 7%, gift products 7%, home decor 5%, furnishings and furniture 5%, sweets and snacks 5%, textiles and fabric 4%, puja items 3%, fruits and dry fruits 3%, bakery and confectionery 3%, shoes 2%, and other items 19% of the total trade.
He further stated that the expansion of the service sector has resulted in a benefit of ₹65,000 crore. Along with retail trade, services such as packaging, hospitality, cab services, travel, event management, tents and decorations, manpower, and delivery generated an estimated ₹65,000 crore in revenue, reflecting the widespread impact of the festive economy across various sectors.
