New Delhi. Just hours after India launched Operation Sindoor against terrorists based in Pakistan, Pakistan targeted India’s Uri Hydroelectric Plant located near the Line of Control (LoC). However, the attack was foiled and no casualties were reported. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) announced this in a statement on Tuesday. CISF honored 19 of its personnel who protected this vital national asset with their exceptional bravery and professional performance that night.
According to CISF, the Indian Army conducted Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of May 6-7, 2025, targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in civilian casualties. In retaliation, the Pakistani army launched intense and indiscriminate shelling on Indian territory.
The Uri Hydro-Power Project, located just a few kilometers from the LoC, was also targeted. A few CISF units, led by Commandant Ravi Yadav, displayed exceptional courage, composure, and professionalism despite intense shelling. CISF personnel neutralized enemy drones targeting the installations. They secured ammunition depots to prevent potential destruction of weapons.
CISF personnel, despite shells landing near residential complexes amid the shelling, went door-to-door, evacuating civilians and taking them to safe bunkers. An official stated that approximately 250 civilians were evacuated without any loss of life or property.
The CISF Director General awarded these 19 personnel the prestigious Director General’s Disc, one of the force’s highest honors, at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
