
New Delhi: The names of all Raj Bhavans in the country have been changed. The Prime Minister’s Office, located within the Central Vista, has also been renamed. The PMO complex will now be known as Seva Tirtha.
According to information received, eight states have so far changed the names of their Raj Bhavans. This process will apply to all states and union territories. The list of states that have implemented this includes West Bengal (Kolkata and Darjeeling Raj Bhavans), Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Kerala, Odisha, Assam, and Uttarakhand (Dehradun and Nainital). Furthermore, the Lieutenant Governor’s Raj Bhavan in the Union Territory of Ladakh has been renamed Lok Niwas.
The Government of India is changing the names of all Raj Bhavans in the country. The central government says that the name “Raj Bhavan” reflects a colonial mentality. That is why the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governors will now be named Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas.
