Tehran. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday called US President Donald Trump a “criminal” and held him responsible for the deaths of thousands of protesters. Trump had expressed support for the demonstrators.
In a speech broadcast on state television, Khamenei said that “several thousand” people were killed in these protests. This is the first time an Iranian leader has given a figure for the number of people killed in the protests that began on December 28 and were violently suppressed.
What did the Iranian Supreme Leader say in his speech?
Khamenei said that the US president personally made statements during this uprising.
He said that Trump encouraged the angry people to continue. He said, “We support you, we even support you militarily.”
Khamenei reiterated that the US wants to dominate Iran’s economic and political resources.
Khamenei’s decisions are final in all government matters.
He said, “Because of the deaths and damage and the accusations against the Iranian people, we consider the American president a criminal.” He called the protesters agents of America and said that they destroyed mosques and educational centers. By harming people, they killed several thousand people.
What did President Trump say?
Meanwhile, Trump said in an interview on Saturday, “This man is sick, he should run his country properly and stop killing people. His country is the worst place in the world to live because of bad leadership.” He said, “It’s time to look for new leadership in Iran.”
