The Opposition Has Betrayed the Nation’s Women: Bansuri Swaraj
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj stated, “Yesterday, the entire opposition—and specifically the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi—deceived the women of this country. They stabbed women in the back. They wish to confine women’s roles solely to the voting booths. When the issue of political representation arose, they prioritized their own self-interests. They have betrayed the women of this nation.” During the protest march toward Rahul Gandhi’s residence, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj was detained by the police.
Women Disappointed Over Failure to Pass Bill: Hema Malini
Meanwhile, BJP MP Hema Malini remarked that the opposition prevented the bill from being passed. “That is why we are all here protesting today. The women of India have united to spearhead this campaign. Yesterday, despite all our earnest efforts, they blocked the passage of the bill. We are deeply disappointed by this. Women across India are currently staging protests.”
The Opposition Has Challenged Women: Manoj Tiwari
Additionally, MP Manoj Tiwari stated, “Yesterday, when the bill was rejected in the Lok Sabha, you must have observed PM Modi’s demeanor—how he composed himself and held back his tears and anguish. At that moment, I felt so disheartened that I did not even feel like rising from my seat. The Congress, AAP, TMC, SP, and DMK have issued a challenge to the women of this country. The women will give them their answer. I am delighted that they have gathered here today, and we stand in full support of them.”
Why Did the Amendment Bill Fail to Pass in the Lok Sabha?
It is noteworthy that last Friday, the government introduced the 131st Amendment Bill—pertaining to the Women’s Reservation Bill—in the Lok Sabha; however, it failed to pass with the requisite two-thirds majority. The bill received 230 votes against it and fell short of securing the necessary 352 votes. In protest against this outcome, female MPs from the BJP staged a demonstration within the Parliament complex yesterday evening.

Utilizing electronic surveillance and other technical means, Aditya Anand was apprehended at the Tiruchirappalli Railway Station in Tamil Nadu.
