Uproar by students at Bihar’s Patliputra station; trains vandalized and pelted with stones; IG and several police personnel injured

Patna. Thousands of candidates heading to take the recruitment exam for the Bihar Police Prohibition Department created a massive ruckus at Patliputra station on Sunday, angered by the shortage of trains and delays in their arrival. During the commotion, agitated students jumped onto the railway tracks to halt trains, pelted stones, and vandalized an ‘exam special’ train. Several police personnel were reportedly injured due to the stone-pelting. Observing the situation spiraling out of control, the police fired three rounds into the air.

The Prohibition Department exam was scheduled to be held in two shifts, prompting thousands of candidates to arrive at the station the previous night. The lack of adequate train arrangements and delays caused the students to fear they might miss the exam.

The situation worsened further when the ‘exam special’ train bound for Katihar from Patliputra arrived at the station, triggering chaos among the candidates. Subsequently, angry students sat on the tracks in front of the Patliputra-Katihar exam special train and began shouting slogans against the railway administration.

Police fired three rounds
Amidst the commotion, some unruly elements vandalized the train and engaged in heavy stone-pelting, causing the situation to spiral out of control. Upon receiving news of the disturbance, police teams from several stations rushed to the scene.

IG and several police personnel injured
The situation became so tense that the police had to fire three rounds into the air to bring it under control. IG Jitendra Rana and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rupaspur sustained minor injuries during the violent clash, following which additional police forces were deployed.

Currently, IG Jitendra Rana, the SP, the Danapur SDM, the ASP, and police personnel from multiple stations are present at the site. The police and railway administration are attempting to pacify and reason with the candidates. At the same time, the railway administration acted promptly to run special trains, ensuring that students could reach their respective examination centers on time.
