New Delhi: Punjab National Bank has issued an important alert for its customers, warning that certain inactive bank accounts may be closed after September 13, 2026. Customers who have not carried out any transactions for an extended period are advised to check their account status and complete the required formalities to avoid closure.
Which PNB Accounts Are at Risk?
According to PNB’s advisory, the closure applies to accounts that have remained inoperative for more than three years and have a zero balance. The bank has stated that accounts meeting these criteria as of June 30, 2026, will be subject to closure after September 13. Customers whose accounts fall under these conditions should take action before the deadline to ensure continued access to banking services.
Why Is PNB Closing These Accounts?
PNB has explained that some accounts have remained unused for years, with no customer activity and no balance. The bank said the move is intended to prevent the potential misuse of dormant accounts and reduce associated fraud and security risks. Inactive accounts can pose security concerns if they are misused by unauthorized individuals. The latest step is therefore aimed at keeping the bank’s account records secure and updated.
How Can Customers Prevent Account Closure?
Customers whose accounts have become inactive can take steps to reactivate them. PNB has advised eligible account holders to visit their respective bank branch and complete the required KYC formalities before the deadline. Updating KYC details and reactivating the account will help customers continue using the bank’s services without interruption.
PNB Advises Customers to Act Before the Deadline
Customers who are unsure whether their account falls under the closure criteria should contact their PNB branch as soon as possible and verify their account status. The bank has also provided toll-free customer-care numbers—1800-1800 and 1800-2021—for assistance. PNB customers are therefore advised not to ignore the notification and to complete the necessary formalities before September 13, 2026, if their account falls under the specified criteria.
