New Delhi: Protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are taking a new turn, with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) announcing a civil disobedience movement against the Pakistani government and administration.
Addressing a gathering in Palandri, JAAC leader Sardar Aman Kashmiri urged people to stop paying taxes and electricity bills. The group has also called for a boycott of government offices and schools, seeking to increase pressure on the Pakistani administration.
‘We Have Been Standing Firm for 70 Days’
Aman Kashmiri said protesters have been demonstrating for more than 70 days and remain determined despite alleged attempts by the administration to suppress the movement through force.
He said the protesters come from ordinary, hardworking families and cannot be intimidated by threats or the use of force.
During the gathering, slogans were also raised against the Pakistan Army, with protesters declaring that they would not accept the “law of the bullet.”
Tax and Electricity Bill Boycott Announced
The civil disobedience campaign calls on people to withhold government revenue by refusing to pay taxes and electricity bills. The JAAC has also urged citizens to stay away from government offices and schools.
If the campaign receives widespread support, it could create significant economic and administrative pressure on the Pakistani authorities amid the ongoing unrest in PoK.
‘Political Problem Needs a Political Solution’
Aman Kashmiri stressed that the dispute should be resolved through dialogue and political means, rather than force.
He urged the Pakistani government to engage with the protesters and address their grievances through negotiations. He warned that if the authorities choose to govern through the threat of force, the people will not back down.
The latest call for civil disobedience marks a significant escalation in the ongoing protests, shifting the movement from street demonstrations toward economic and administrative non-cooperation.
