BRICS Summit Day 2: Leaders Return to Bharat Mandapam, PM Modi to Hold 7 Key Bilateral Meetings

New Delhi: The second and crucial day of the BRICS Summit is set to bring another round of high-level diplomacy to New Delhi, with leaders of BRICS partner nations and invited countries gathering at Bharat Mandapam.

The day will begin with the arrival of heads of state and government, followed by the traditional family photograph and the summit’s open session. Leaders are expected to deliberate on the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also hold seven bilateral meetings with leaders from Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Egypt, South Africa, Burundi, Nigeria and Uganda.

BRICS Summit Day 2: Full Schedule

9:55 AM: Heads of State and Government from BRICS partner nations and outreach invitees will arrive at Level 2 of Bharat Mandapam.

10:35 AM: Leaders will pose for the BRICS family photograph.

10:50 AM: The summit’s open session will begin at the Summit Hall on Level 2, focusing on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability and their role in achieving inclusive global growth.

PM Modi’s 7 Bilateral Meetings

The Prime Minister’s afternoon schedule will be packed with bilateral engagements:

– 2:30 PM: Meeting with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
– 3:00 PM: Meeting with Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
– 3:30 PM: Meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi
– 4:10 PM: Meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa
– 4:40 PM: Meeting with Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye
– 5:10 PM: Meeting with Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima
– 5:40 PM: Meeting with Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo

The meetings are expected to cover trade, investment, strategic partnerships, regional security and major global challenges.

Day 1: India’s Diplomatic Push Takes Centre Stage

The first day of the 18th BRICS Summit in Delhi witnessed intense diplomatic activity, with PM Modi holding bilateral meetings with several prominent world leaders.

His discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on India-China relations and border-related concerns, while talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin covered the strategic partnership and economic and trade ties.

The summit’s gala dinner also showcased India’s cultural heritage, with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim adding an unexpected musical moment by singing a Kishore Kumar song.

One of the key outcomes of Day 1 was the New Delhi Declaration, through which BRICS countries presented a common position on issues including terrorism, global conflicts, trade and the future of the multilateral system.

India’s Hosting and Modi’s Diplomacy in Focus

India’s hosting of the summit has also attracted attention. Prime Minister Modi personally welcomed heads of state and senior leaders arriving at Bharat Mandapam, greeting them with handshakes and photographs.

The series of bilateral meetings further highlighted India’s effort to use the BRICS platform to deepen economic, strategic and diplomatic partnerships with countries across the Global South and beyond.

With seven more bilateral meetings scheduled on Day 2, the focus now shifts from the summit’s collective deliberations to India’s individual diplomatic engagements with key partner countries.
