Jalandhar: Incidents of stubble burning are continuously coming to light in Punjab. Despite repeated warnings and appeals from the government and administration to farmers not to burn stubble, the process of setting fire to fields is not stopping. The latest case has come to light from village Puranpur in Jalandhar, where stubble was burnt in several acres of fields.
According to the information, stubble was set on fire in the fields on 22nd and 23rd October in village Puranpur. Pictures of this incident have also surfaced, in which stubble is seen burning on a large scale in the fields. The smoke arising from burning of stubble on several acres of land has increased concerns about pollution.
Every year, due to stubble burning, the problem of air pollution in Punjab and surrounding areas becomes serious. The pollutants present in stubble smoke affect the air quality. It also affects people’s health. Especially children, elderly and people suffering from respiratory problems may face problems.
Government’s efforts are not showing any effect
Farmers are constantly made aware by the government and administration. They are advised to adopt other options for crop residue management instead of burning stubble. Despite this, the incident that unfolded in Puranpur has raised questions on these appeals and administrative monitoring.
The biggest question is that when there are constant warnings to stop burning of stubble, then how are many acres of fields being set on fire openly? Did the administration not get information about this incident or is it waiting for action? At present, no concrete action has been taken by the administration in this matter.
