New Delhi. Just days after Cyclone ‘Arnab’ caused extensive damage in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, another cyclone, ‘Murasu’, is moving toward the coast of Andhra Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, the landfall process for Cyclone ‘Murasu’ began early Tuesday morning—around 1:00 AM. Heavy rainfall continues across Andhra Pradesh.
Winds in Andhra Pradesh are currently blowing at 110 km/h, with the potential to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. As of 1:30 AM, the cyclone was centered over the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the coast of southern Andhra Pradesh—approximately 40 km southeast of Ongole, 60 km northeast of Kavali, and 70 km south of Bapatla.
Alert for heavy rainfall over the next 12 hours
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in the southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh over the next 12 hours. Additionally, high tidal waves are expected by Tuesday morning; these waves could rise 1–1.5 meters above normal levels, potentially leading to waterlogging in coastal areas. According to the Meteorological Department, the impact is expected to be most severe in the Bapatla, Krishna, and Prakasam districts.
Heavy rain in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu
The impact of Cyclone ‘Murasu’ is already being felt in Puducherry, where it has been raining continuously since midnight. Rainfall also continues across Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, under the influence of Cyclone Murasu, the Chirala region of Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Several trees were uprooted due to the high-velocity winds.
18 Flights Cancelled
Due to Cyclone Murasu, 8 IndiGo flight services connected to Vijayawada (VGA) have been cancelled for November 3, 2026. Prior to this, 10 other flights had already been cancelled, bringing the total number of cancellations to 18.
This cyclone is weaker than Cyclone Arnab, which occurred last week. Nevertheless, it is expected to have an impact on Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.
