New Delhi: LPG gas cylinder prices have witnessed a significant hike across the country. Immediately following the conclusion of elections in several states—including West Bengal and Assam—the price of commercial LPG cylinders (19 kg) has been increased. State-run oil companies have raised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹993, effective May 1, 2026.
Following this hike, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and others have now crossed the ₹3,000 mark. However, providing relief to the general public, the oil companies have refrained from increasing the prices of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg).
Following the price hike for the 19 kg cylinder, the cost of a single commercial cylinder in Delhi has risen to ₹3,071.50. This marks an increase of ₹993 per cylinder since May 1, considering the price stood at ₹2,078.50 on April 1.
Domestic Cooking Gas Prices
While commercial LPG prices have gone up, ANI reports that the prices of domestic cooking gas have not been increased. The last hike in domestic cooking gas prices occurred earlier this year, on March 7. Currently, the price of domestic cooking gas in Delhi is ₹913. In Mumbai, a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder costs ₹912.50. In Chennai, the price for a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is ₹928.50, while in Kolkata, a single cylinder costs ₹939.
Impact of Iran-US Tensions
It is noteworthy that due to tensions between the United States and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz—a route through which India historically imported large quantities of gas and oil—remains blocked. The closure of the route has led to a reduction in gas and oil supplies, prompting India to increase its imports of oil and gas from various other sources. Consequently, costs have risen, and supply chains have come under increased pressure. As a result, gas prices have gone up.
