‘I Forgive the Youth Who Abused Me’: PM Modi’s Emotional Message on Jantar Mantar Protest

August 01, 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday night issued an emotional appeal to the country’s youth, saying he wants to forgive those who allegedly abused him and his late mother during the recent Jantar Mantar protest. In a video message shared on Instagram after 11 pm, the Prime Minister urged society to guide misguided youngsters instead of punishing them.

Referring to the incident, PM Modi said the country had witnessed what happened at Jantar Mantar, where some youths allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother. Calling the episode a “cultural shock,” he said such language had no place in a civilized society.

  • Emphasising the need for compassion, the Prime Minister said mistakes are common in youth and that the same phase of life also provides an opportunity to learn and improve. “These youngsters have lost their way, and it is our responsibility to show them the right path. Court cases, punishment or social humiliation will not solve the problem. I want to forgive them,” he said.

Using a metaphor, PM Modi added that just as a person does not break their teeth when the tongue is accidentally bitten, society should not abandon its own youth because of their mistakes. “They are our children too. Our duty is to guide them and help them build a better future,” he said.

Inviting the youth to move forward together, the Prime Minister urged them to learn from their mistakes and contribute to nation-building. “The country is progressing rapidly. I want every young person to move ahead with confidence. I live for your future and dedicate myself to your bright tomorrow,” he said.

    Protest video triggered nationwide debate

The Prime Minister’s remarks come in the backdrop of a controversy surrounding a protest held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 23 against the alleged NEET paper leak. During the demonstration, a video of a woman identified as Ruchika Singh allegedly making abusive remarks against the Prime Minister went viral on social media.

Following the incident, a Zero FIR was registered in Noida against the 25-year-old woman based on a complaint alleging that the remarks insulted the dignity of the Prime Minister’s constitutional office and had the potential to disturb public peace. The episode has since triggered widespread political and social debate, with PM Modi’s message drawing both praise and criticism.
