How Does Record-Breaking Voter Turnout in Bengal Favor the BJP? Amit Shah’s Response to Anjana Om Kashyap’s Question

Kolkata: Following the first phase of voting in West Bengal, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah held a press conference. During the event, Amit Shah asserted that voting in the state this time has been “fear-free” and that the results would be in the BJP’s favor.

Amit Shah was asked: “Recently, in several states, we have observed that high voter turnout has indicated a ‘pro-incumbency’ trend. In that context, we are witnessing record-breaking voter turnout in West Bengal—the most massive turnout seen to date. So, on what basis do you believe this favors the BJP?”

Responding to this question, Amit Shah stated: “Anti-incumbency is at its peak here. It was present during the previous election as well, but voting could not take place in a fear-free environment. In this election, the process began with a ‘purification’ of the electoral rolls, and the names of infiltrators have been struck off. Impeccable security arrangements have been put in place; voting has been fear-free, and the results will be in our favor.”

During the press conference, the Union Home Minister added: “Based on the feedback we have received, the people of Bengal have already decided their future in this very first phase. A BJP government is set to be formed in Bengal with a massive majority. In the first phase alone, the BJP is winning 110 out of the 152 seats contested. The ‘reign of terror’ in Bengal will come to an end.”

*Women’s Safety: The BJP’s Priority — Shah*

Amit Shah asserted that if a BJP government is formed in West Bengal, the safety of women will remain his party’s foremost priority. “Wherever the BJP has formed a government, women’s safety has been our top priority,” he said. He further stated: “For us, ‘Change’ (Parivartan) signifies a Bengal free from infiltration, free from corruption, free from appeasement politics, free from extortion rackets, and offering employment opportunities for the youth.”

Shah went on to say that regarding the disturbing trend of attacks on religious festivals that has emerged, “We will ensure that no such incidents occur during any religious procession or pilgrimage. This trust will translate into votes. Cast your votes without any fear.”
