New Delhi: US President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that India has finally agreed to cut tariffs on American imports. He attributed this decision to the efforts of his administration, which is engaged in exposing unfair trade practices. He claimed that India has taken this step because finally someone is exposing it.
Trump’s comment came a few days after the announcement of reciprocal tariffs on India. America has announced to implement reciprocal tariffs from April 2. Trump claims that we have taken this step in response to those trade policies that harm American businesses.
‘India charges very high tariffs’
Trump said, India charges very high tariffs from us. Very high. You cannot sell anything in India. By the way, they have agreed. They now want to cut their tariffs because now someone has come who is exposing them.
Earlier, several reports said that the Indian government is considering cutting tariffs on key goods imported from the US, while companies from several sectors are in talks with US partners to ensure business continuity.
Companies are making strategies on tariffs
According to the report, many Indian companies dealing in auto parts, consumer electronics, jewellery and apparel are also making strategies on ways to reduce risk. This discussion started when Trump addressed a joint session of the US Parliament and reiterated the talk of reciprocal tariffs on Indian imports.
What did Trump say in the joint session of Parliament…
Trump said, India charges more than 100 percent tariff from us. China’s average tariff on our products is twice ours and South Korea’s average tariff is four times higher. This is being done by both friends and enemies. This system is not fair for America. It never was. Reciprocal tariffs will come into effect on April 2. Whatever tax they impose on us, we will impose the same tax on them. Trump said in the US Congress that he does not want to implement it from April 1 because that day is April Fool’s Day.
He further said that if trading partners impose non-monetary tariffs to keep us out of their markets, we will impose non-monetary tariffs to keep them out of our markets. He said, we will take trillions of dollars and create jobs that we have never seen before. We have been looted by every country for decades and we will not let this happen anymore.
