New Delhi: The curtains came down on the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sunday after 11 days of thrilling sporting action. The closing ceremony marked a historic milestone for India, as the country officially received the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games—the landmark centenary edition of the event.

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will host the 2030 Games, making it only the second Indian city after New Delhi to stage the prestigious multi-sport event. During the grand closing ceremony, Scottish officials ceremonially handed over the Commonwealth Games flag and baton to the Indian delegation, symbolizing the official transfer of hosting responsibilities.

The memorable occasion was witnessed by Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who represented India on the global stage.

The closing ceremony celebrated Scotland’s rich cultural heritage before transitioning into a vibrant Indo-Scottish cultural performance. India Ends Campaign with 39 Medals

India wrapped up its Glasgow campaign with an impressive haul of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze, securing fourth place in the overall medal standings. Indian athletes produced several standout performances, reinforcing the country’s growing stature in international sports.

Ahmedabad Gears Up for the Centenary Games

With the 2030 Commonwealth Games now officially heading to Ahmedabad, India is preparing to script another chapter in its sporting history. Having previously hosted the Games in New Delhi in 2010, India will become only the second nation after Australia to host the Commonwealth Games more than once, with the centenary edition expected to be one of the biggest sporting events ever held in the country.
