Manipur CM Biren Singh resigns, submits resignation to Governor

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Sunday evening. Earlier today, he met Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda. He has submitted his resignation to the Governor. Biren Singh had apologized to the people of Manipur for the Manipur violence last year.

He had said that this whole year has been very bad. I apologize to all the people of the state for whatever has happened so far. Many people lost their loved ones. Many people left their homes. Along with this, he wrote that I hope the situation in the state will become normal in the year 2025.

Let us tell you that violence in Manipur had remained a serious issue for a long time. Tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the state have led to several violent clashes, which have claimed hundreds of lives and forced thousands to leave their homes. There has been a long-standing dispute between the Meitei and Kuki communities over land, reservation and political representation.

Meanwhile, one community has been accusing the government of adopting a partisan attitude in the state. There have been large-scale clashes in the state in the last few months, in which many people have been killed, the central government has deployed additional security forces to control the situation.
