Imphal. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla held a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan on Sunday, which was attended by top officials and several BJP MLAs, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The meeting has become important ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible visit to Manipur in the second week of this month.
If this visit happens, it will be the PM’s first visit to Manipur after the ethnic violence in the state in May 2023. Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal, Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh were also present in the meeting.
Discussion on possible visit of PM
Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, a BJP leader told news agency PTI, ‘Our party’s state unit president A Sharda Devi was also present in the meeting. Several issues were discussed in the meeting, including matters related to the possible visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.’
The Prime Minister will visit Mizoram on September 13
According to sources, the PM will probably inaugurate the new Bairabi-Sairang railway in Mizoram on September 13. After this he may go to Imphal, although his visit has not been officially confirmed yet. More than 260 people have been killed and thousands have been rendered homeless in ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Jaw groups since May 2023.
