‘No One Consults Me Anymore’: Amarinder Singh Opens Up on BJP Role, Congress Return

New Delhi: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has spoken about his current role in the BJP and the speculation surrounding a possible return to the Congress, saying that despite nearly six decades in Punjab politics, there was a time when his views were no longer being sought.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Amarinder Singh was asked whether the BJP’s understanding of Punjab had led to dissatisfaction and whether that could eventually prompt him to return to the Congress.

The veteran politician pointed to his long experience in Punjab politics and said he has a responsibility, as someone who lives in the state, to express his views on its affairs. He also noted that he has many associates who have closely followed developments in Punjab.

‘Sharing My Views Doesn’t Mean I’m Leaving BJP’
Amarinder Singh made it clear that expressing his views on Punjab should not automatically be interpreted as an indication that he plans to leave the BJP. When questioned specifically about a possible return to the Congress, he referred to his earlier political journey. He recalled leaving the Congress after Operation Blue Star and joining the Shiromani Akali Dal before subsequently returning to the Congress. He noted that politicians have changed parties in the past, but did not announce any plan to leave the BJP or return to the Congress.

Rahul Gandhi Had Recently Named Amarinder as His Favourite BJP Leader
The remarks come amid renewed attention to Amarinder Singh’s political relationship with the Congress. Earlier, on August 7, Rahul Gandhi was asked on Instagram to name his favourite leader in the BJP. Gandhi named Amarinder Singh and said he had worked extensively with the former Punjab CM, describing him as “cool” and knowledgeable about military history. Amarinder Singh’s latest comments, however, did not include any announcement about switching parties.

What Happens Next in Punjab Politics?
For now, Amarinder Singh has indicated that he intends to continue expressing his views on Punjab while remaining with the BJP. His comments about not being consulted, along with the renewed discussion around his political future, are likely to keep speculation about his next move in focus. However, no decision to leave the BJP or return to the Congress was announced in his latest remarks.
