New Delhi. American defense strategist and American Enterprise Institute’s Michael Rubin has strongly objected to the International Monetary Fund giving a bailout package of 1 billion dollars to Pakistan. He has also blamed the then Trump administration for this decision, and said that this step is like giving a reward to a country that adopts terrorism as a state policy.
“Giving money to Pakistan is like helping China”
Rubin has taught at the US Naval Postgraduate School till 2021. He said, “IMF giving money to Pakistan is also an indirect bailout to China. Today Pakistan has become a slave of China. Gwadar port was the first pearl of China’s ‘string of pearls’, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has plunged Islamabad into a debt of $40 billion.” He further said that Pakistan has now become a country acting at the behest of China and this kind of economic support is not only nurturing terrorism but also giving China a strategic advantage.
Referring to the recent four-day limited war between India and Pakistan, Rubin said that India has achieved a “clear and decisive victory” in this conflict. He said, “The threat given by Pakistan to teach India a lesson turned out to be hollow. On the contrary, Pakistan itself kept pleading for a ceasefire, like a scared dog runs away with its tail between its legs.”
Pakistan was badly defeated by India
He also criticized Pakistan’s attempt to hide its defeat by using propaganda. Rubin said, “No matter how much the Pakistani army tries to cover up this defeat, the truth is that they not only accepted defeat but were badly defeated. India targeted their important military installations and airbases and put Pakistan completely on the back foot.”
In one of his op-ed articles, Rubin also criticized the US and said that it should have stopped the IMF from giving financial aid to Pakistan. He said that this decision was taken at a time when Pak-based terrorists infiltrated India and killed innocent non-Muslim civilians and that too in front of their families.
This is like giving an open challenge to Trump
He said, “This aid of $1 billion has been given at a time when the White House was trying to reduce tensions between nuclear-armed countries like India and Pakistan. This is not just help to Pakistan, but an open challenge by the IMF to America and President Trump.”
Rubin’s statement has come at a time when Pakistan’s economy is going through a very fragile phase and it has completely succumbed to China’s economic influence. According to him, in such a situation, America and the IMF should reconsider aiding Pakistan, and not give it an opportunity to spread terrorism and serve China’s strategic interests. Rubin said in his recent article that Pakistan is considered “one of the most corrupt countries in the world” and is a “sponsor of terrorism”.
