Twisha Sharma’s family suffers setback, court rejects plea for second postmortem

Bhopal: The court has dismissed the petition for a second postmortem in the case of Twisha Sharma’s death. The Bhopal court stated, “The directions issued yesterday for a second postmortem and forensic analysis of the deceased at AIIMS, Delhi, are dismissed by this order.” Regarding the issuance of instructions to prevent the body from decomposing, the applicant requested in the original application that the relevant authorities be directed to preserve the body.

Body to be kept at -80°C temperature
According to police reports, the body is currently kept at a temperature of -4°C in the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary. According to AIIMS Bhopal officials, it is necessary to keep the body at -80°C. Based on information received from other institutions in Bhopal, there are no facilities available for preserving bodies at such low temperatures anywhere in Bhopal.

    The court ordered a letter to the SHO, Katara Hills Police Station, directing him to immediately obtain written information from medical institutions regarding whether other higher medical institutions in Madhya Pradesh and other metropolitan cities have facilities for preserving bodies at low temperatures and submit a written report to this court without delay.

    What did the Police Commissioner say?
    The Bhopal Police had clarified that they had no objection to a second post-mortem. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that a second post-mortem could be conducted if the court granted permission. The family had requested a second post-mortem at AIIMS, Delhi. The Police Commissioner stated that the deceased’s family had met with him and submitted an application in this regard. He stated that the police had no objection to this, and that a second post-mortem could be conducted if the court granted permission.

    Lookout notice issued against husband, reward of 10,000 rupees
    Meanwhile, the police stated that several teams have been formed to arrest the deceased’s husband, Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding. The couple married in December 2025. The police will offer a reward of 10,000 rupees for information leading to the husband’s whereabouts. A lookout notice has been issued against the husband, Samarth Singh.
