New Delhi. US President Donald Trump announced new trade measures against China on Friday. He vowed to impose an additional 100% tariff on all Chinese imports starting November 1st and strict export controls on critical US-made software. This move could escalate tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
In a social media post, Trump accused Beijing of adopting an overly aggressive stance on trade and warned that the US would respond in kind.
Donald Trump announced, “Beginning November 1st, 2025, or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes by China, the US will impose a 100% tariff on China, in addition to any tariffs currently paid by China.”
According to Trump, this decision was made following reports that China was planning to impose sweeping export restrictions on nearly every product, which he described as a moral affront in its dealings with other countries.
Trump wrote, “Just learned that China has adopted an exceptionally aggressive stance on trade. This will impact all countries without exception, and they apparently planned this years ago. Speaking only of the United States, not of countries facing similar threats, we will impose export controls on all critical software starting November 1st.”
Experts believe that if this move is implemented, it could impact sectors ranging from consumer electronics to electric vehicles, which are already under pressure from existing tariffs. This would be one of the most severe protectionist measures taken by Washington since the trade wars Trump waged during his first term.
Trump’s announcement follows an earlier post that hinted at new tariffs on Chinese goods. He also threatened to cancel a meeting with President Xi Jinping. This was a sharp attack against Beijing, which has strained markets and relations between the world’s largest economies.
Trump said there was no reason to hold the meeting with Xi Jinping, which he had previously announced. Beijing had never confirmed the meeting between the leaders.
