Zohran Mamdani was in a direct contest with independent candidate Andrew Cuomo. This election was the first major political test of the post-Donald Trump era. Zohran Mamdani has assumed the leadership of New York, America’s largest city.

The city’s election board reported that more than 2 million voters cast their ballots, the highest turnout for a mayoral election since 1969. The city has a population of approximately 8.5 million.
